Cristo Redentor is a gigantic statue of Christ the Redeemer at the border pass between Chile and Argentina. It is 7 m (23 ft) in height, and it stands on a 6-m (20 ft) pedestal.

The Cristo Redentor statue commemorates the historic signing of a treaty that ends the border dispute between the two countries. The memorial features the statue of Christ holding a cross. It is set at a dizzying height of 3,823 m (12,539 ft) above sea level.

The Cristo Redentor statue was created in Buenos Aires. It was then conveyed by train to the foot of the Andes, where it was dismantled, and the pieces brought up the mountain by mules, and reassembled.

Visiting Cristo Redentor

Cristo Redentor is about 210 km (130 mi) to the east of Valparaíso.

Notes

The most famous Cristo Redentor statue in the world is the one in Rio de Janeiro.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
