Cat Cays is a pair of islands in the Bahamas, near the coast of Miami, Florida. They comprise North Cat Cay and South Cat Cay.

North Cat Cay is a privately owned island managed by the Cat Cay Yacht Club. The island was once a haven for buccaneers and pirates, among them Edward, better known as Blackbeard. In 1873, Queen Victoria granted the deed for Cat Cay to Captain William Henry Stuart in recognition of services rendered as keeper of the lighthouse on Gun Cay, another small island located immediately to the north of North Cat Cay.

North Cat Cay has changed hands a number of time through history. It belonged to Milo Strong who bought it in 1915, lived there with his wife in the Manor House until his death in 1929. Mrs Strong then sold it to friends, the Waseys, in 1931. The Waseys carried out renovations to the Manor House and turned it into a private club, selling lots to his friends.

Cat Cay remained in the Wasey family until the 1960s, when it was inherited by Jane Wasey, a New York sculptress. However Hurricane Betsy in 1965 caused great damage to the island, forcing it to be closed. It was then bought by a group of investors headed by Al Rockwell.

Today fishing remains a popular sport in the waters around Cat Cays.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
