Bahamas Historical Society Museum

[an error occurred while processing this directive] Bahamas Historical Society Museum is a museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of the Bahamas. It is housed in a small colonial building painted pink, at the corner of Shirley Street and Elizabeth Avenue, in Nassau. The front façade has a pediment surmounting four Corinthian columns.

As its name indicates, the museum is managed by the Bahamas Historical Society, a non-profit organization geared towards stimulating an interest in the history of the Bahamas. Founded in 1959, the society works to gather, document, interpret and preserve documents relevant in explaining the country's history.

In addition to running the museum, the society also publishes articles and newsletters explaining the history of the Bahamas. Many of its publications are available for purchase at the museum book shop.

Visiting the Bahamas Historical Society Museum

The museum is open only on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (10:00 am to 4:00 pm ) and on Saturdays (10:00 am to 12:00 noon). The museum is closed if the day is a public holiday. Entrance fee is $1.00 per adult and $0.50 per child.
