photo licensing Lunenburg in Nova Scotia, Canada, is a town established in 1753 by the British. Today it stands as one of the best surviving example of a British colonial settlement in North America. The town retains the original layout that goes back to its founding in the 18th century. The overall appearance of the town, as well as the grid pattern of the streets, were drawn by the British in their home country. The wooden architecture of Lunenburg, many of which dates back to its early years in the 18th century, has been well preserved by its inhabitants.

Lunenburg was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 19th session of the World Heritage Committee that convened in Berlin, Germany, on 4-9 December, 1995.

Most of the people of Lunenburg trace their ancestry to Germans from the southern Rhineland as well as the Swiss and the French. They are mostly Protestants who arrived in the New World around the same time as the Pennsylvania Dutch. Their immigration was encouraged by the British.

Today Lunenburg derives its income mainly from tourism. It is the home port of the world famous schooner Bluenose.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
