Puchuncaví, Chile

Puchuncaví is a town in Valparaíso Province, Valparaíso Region, in Chile. It covers 300 sq km (115.8 sq mi) and has a population of 14,000 people (2012 estimate).

Puchuncaví is one of the oldest settlements in Chile. It was established some 500 years ago. The town is said to have existed as a shanty town when the Spaniards arrived. It was one of the terminals of the Inca road that leads to Cusco, Peru.

By the 19th century Puchuncaví had grown to considerable significance. It was given "villa" status in 1875. Since 1975, it became part of the Valparaíso Province.
