Blue Mountains is the longest mountain range in Jamaica. It also has the island's highest peak, the 2256-meter (7,402 ft) Blue Mountain Peak. The mountain range stretches for 45 km (28 miles) from east to west, and is 14 mile at its widest point. On the lower altitudes you find soapwood, dogwood and Caribbean cedar trees interrupted by coffee plantations. In the higher elevation, the vegetation is that of stunted montane rainforest.

The Blue Mountains offer an opportunity for visitors to Jamaica to escape the heat of the lowlands. The Blue Mountain John Crow Mountain National Park, established in 1992, covers part of the Blue Mountains range.

The Blue Mountains are noted with having the second largest butterfly in the world, and the largest in the Americas. These are the Homerus swallowtail butterly (Papilio homerus). The area is also home to some 200 species of birds. Wildlife in the area include the Jamaican Coney and the Jamaican boa.

Visiting Blue Mountains

The best way to experience the Blue Mountains is to drive through it yourself. Do it slowly, and sound your horn at hairpin bends.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
