Jermuk (Armenian: Ջերմուկ) is a spa resort town in Vayots Dzor Province, in southern Armenia. The town covers 55.14 sq km (21.3 sq mi) and has a population of 6,200.

Jermuk is about 2,080 m (6,824 ft) above sea level. It is located in a pristine surrounding, which explain why it is also a major production center for mineral water. The name Jermuk means "geyser" in the Armenian language. The town has a popular hot spring as well as a huge waterfall and mineral water pools.

The earliest mention of Jermuk goes back to the 13th century, although a basilica and a fortress have existed here as early as the 8th century. The mineral water of Jermuk is believed during ancient times to have healing properties, earning the town a reputation as a convalescent destination, even in ancient times.

Due to its excellent location, Jermuk is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination. People come here to enjoy its water, not only to drink it but also to soak in it. There are also hikes to various nature spots around the town. The river in Jermuk creates a picturesque canyon with cascading waterfalls that is particularly beautiful during autumn. The town now also hosts the annual FIDE Grand Prix Jermuk Chess Tournament.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
