St Martin's Island is a small island on the northeastern part of the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh. It is on the mouth of the Naf River, about 9 km to the south of the peninsula between Cox's Bazar and Teknaf. The island is called Narical Gingira by the locals, which means "coconut island".

St Martin's Island is a popular snorkeling and diving spot. However the island suffers from excessive exploitation to the detriment of its natural beauty. To counter this, efforts are being made to protect its endangered wildlife, which includes several species of sea turtles.

The coral reefs are also subjected to discriminate harvesting and sold to tourists as souvenirs. Tourists are therefore urged not to purchase items made from corals, to help reduce the damage to the environment.

How to go to St Martin's Island

You can book boat trips to St Martin's Island from Cox's Bazar and Chittagong.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
