Ningxia (Simplified Chinese: 宁夏) is an autonomous region in central China. Its official full name is Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region 宁夏回族自治区, as it is the traditional homeland of the Hui minority people. It covers an area of 66,000 sq km (25,000 sq mi) in the Loess highlands, with the Yellow River flowing through it. The region borders Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the north, Shaanxi Province to the east, and Gansu Province wrapping around it on the west and south. It was incorporated as part of Gansu Province in 1954, but reconstituted in 1958 as an autonomous region.

Ningxia has a population of 6.2 million people (2011 estimate). It is the 29th most populous region of China. The capital and largest city is Yinchuan. The region is divided into five prefecture-level cities. Ningxia has a GDP of CNY 133.47 billion in 2009, putting it in 29th position, and a per capita GDP of CNY 21,470, coming in 18th position.

The landscape of Ningxia is one of arid desert terrain. Where the Huanghe River flows is the most fertile land. The climate here is continental, with summer temperatures of 17°C to 24°C and winter temperatures dropping to between -7°C and -10°C.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
