Asakura 朝倉市, Fukuoka Prefecture

Asakura (Japanese: 朝倉市) is a city in the south-central part of Fukuoka Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu, in southern Japan. It covers 247 sq km (95 sq mi) and has a population of 57,500 people (2012 estimate). Asakura is about 49 km to the southeast of downtown Fukuoka.

The history og Asakura goes back to the 7th century, when the Imperial Court took residence at the Tachibana no Hironiwa Palace in Asakura for a few months. The present city of Asakura dates to 1889, when the municipality was formed from the former town of Amagi along with several surrounding villages.

Over the course of time, the various villages were granted city status until 1954, when Amagi City was formed. Then in 2006, Amagi merged with the town of Asakura and Haki to create the present city of Asakura.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
