Goshogawara 五所川原市, Aomori Prefecture

Goshogawara (Japanese: 五所川原市) is a city in Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan. It covers 405 sq km (156 sq mi) and has a population 58,000 people (2012 estimate).

Goshogawara was made a town in 1898. It received city status in 1954, when it annexed the surrounding villages of Sakae, Nakagawa, Nagahashi, Matsushima and Iizume. It expanded its boundaries to annex the town of Kizukuri in 1958, and the town of Kanagi and the village of Shiura in 2005.

The city is primarily a farming community producing rice and apples. There is also a fishing industry here and commercial production of clams. Toshiba has a plant here producing HD DVD.

You can reach Goshogawa by taking Japan National Route 101 and 339. By train, the Gono Line of the East Japan Railway and the Tsugaru Railway also serves Goshogawara.
