Kochi Prefecture (高知県) is a prefecture on the southern coast of Shikoku in Japan. It covers 7,104.87 sq km and has a population of 800,000 (2011 estimate). It is bordered by Ehime Prefecture to the west and Tokushima Prefecture to the northeast. The capital is Kochi City.

As Kochi Prefecture faces the Pacific Ocean, away from the main populated areas of Shikoku, it is the least populous of the prefectures on the island. The prefecture is also mountainous, with only limited land for agriculture and development. The highest mountain in Kochi Prefecture is Inamura-yama, which is 1506 meters tall.

Planning your trip to Kochi Prefecture

Coming from Honshu Island, the most popular way to reach Kochi is to take the train from Okayama, which reaches Kochi City in 2.5 hours. Alternatively you can fly from Osaka-Itami, Osaka-Kansai, Tokyo-Haneda and Nagoya-Komaki to the small Kochi Ryoma Airport (KCZ).

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
