Motomiya 本宮市, Fukushima Prefecture

Motomiya (Japanese: 本宮市) is a city in the Nakadori region in central Fukushima Prefecture, in the northern Tohoku Region of Honshu, Japan. It covers 88 sq km (34 sq mi) and has a population of 31,500 people (2012 estimate), making it the smallest city in Fukushima Prefecture, in terms of area and population.

The history of the Motomiya goes back to the Nara Era and possibly earlier. The former town of Motomiya was created in 1889 when the cities, towns and villages of Japan were reorganized during the Meiji Restoration. The present city came into being only in 2007, when Motomiya town merged with Shirasawa village.

Motomiya is served by the Tohoku Expressway and Japan National Route 4. By train, take the Tohoku Main Line from Tokyo to the Motomiya Station.
