Ono 大野市, Fukui Prefecture

Ono (Japanese: 大野市) is a town on the eastern part of Fukui Prefecture, Japan. It covers 872 sq km (337 sq mi) and has a population of 37,000 people (2012 estimate). The town was established in 1954. Surrounded by mountains and highlands, Ono is isolated from the outside world, and can only be accessed through tunnel and mountain roads.

The town of Ono is perhaps best known for its castle. Another sight of tourist interest is Tera-Machi, a street with a number of historic temples. The town is a power producer with many dams in its vicinity.
