The Sea of Japan is the sea bordered by Japan, North Korea, South Korea and Russia. Almost completely enclosed from the Pacific Ocean, it is known by different names to the different nations surrounding it. Apart from the internationally recognised name, it is also known as the Korea East Sea in North Korea, East Sea in South Korea and Japanese Sea in Russia.

There are no large islands or bays on the Sea of Japan. There are also few rivers discharging into this sea, which keeps its water balance through the inflow and outflow from the straits connecting it to the Pacific Ocean and other neighboring seas.

The Sea of Japan has a surface area of about 978,000 sq km (377,600 sq mi) and a mean depth of 1,752 m (5,748 ft). The deepest part of the sea is 3,742 m (12,276 ft) deep. The Russian coastline to the Sea of Japan is the longest, being 3,240 km out of the total 7,600 km. Due to political sensitivity of the area, there is only limited shipping being carried out in the Sea of Japan.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
