Akihabara is a major shopping area for electronic, computers and video games in Tokyo. Often known as Akihabara Electric Town or simply Akiba, the place known commonly as Akihabara is actually the neighborhood of Soto-Kanta, in Chiyoda ward. Incidentally, there is a Akihabara district located within Taito ward nearby, but that is not the Akihabara of the electronics stores fame.

The stores at Akihabara sell both new and used items. The new and state-of-the-art products find store space in the shops lining Chuodori, the main street in Akihabara. The lanes off the main street are stocked with small shops selling electrical parts, tools, specialty electonics, wirings and the like. The big stores closest to the train stations are popular with foreign tourists, but prices are more attractive in the smaller shops farther away.

How to go to Akihabara

By Train
Take a train to the Akihabara Station, which is right at the heart of Akihabara. Trains going there include the JR Yamanote Line, Keihin-Tohoku Line and Chuo Local Line. Exit the station following the Akihabara Electric Town signage to land yourself in the shopping area.

By Subway
You can also take the Hibiya Line to Akihabara Station (H15), Ginza Line to Suehirocho Station (G14). The Shinjuku Line goes to Iwamotocho Station (S08), which is a 10-minute walk to Akihabara.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
