Yurihonjo 由利本荘市, Akita Prefecture

Yurihonjo (Japanese: 由利本荘市) is a city on the southern part of Akita Prefecture, in the Tohoku region of Honshu island, Japan. It covers 1,209 sq km (467 sq mi) and has a population of 84,000 people (2012 estimate).

A major landmark in Yurihonjo is Mount Chokai, an inactive volcano standing at 2236 m above sea level. It is the second highest mountain in the Tohoku region. The mountain is popular with hikers and climbers.

Planning your trip to Yurihonjo

There are regular train services between Tokyo and Ugohonjo Station in Honjo. The nearest shinkansen bullet-train station in the region are the Komachi Shinkansen station in Akita and the Tsubasa Shinkansen station in Shinjo, northern Yamagata, both receiving Shinkansen services from Tokyo.
