Ayer Hitam (GPS: 6.24192, 100.28251) is a small town in Kedah. It is located on the northwestern part of Kedah, near the border with Perlis. To reach Ayer Hitam from Alor Setar, take Federal Route 7 (Jalan Kangar-Alor Setar). Turn right at State Route 106.

Ayer Hitam, Kedah, is just one of the rural places in the state. The area is mostly flat land with wide expanse of paddy fields. It has a secondary school SMK Ayer Hitam. The post code here 06150.
