Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur

Chow Kit is a neighbourhood in Kuala Lumpur. It is the area along Chow Kit Road, between Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Raja Laut, and includes the small lanes in the area such as Lorong Chow Kit, Lorong Haji Taib 1, 2 and 3.

The Chow Kit area has a seedy character being one of the notorious red light district of the city. During the day, there is a big (apparently the biggest in the inner city) wet market in the Chow Kit area. At night, there are night market stalls selling clothes and trinkets.

The area that is Chow Kit technically ends at Jalan Raja Abdullah on the eastern side, but even before you reach Jalan Raja Abdullah, you will notice a chance in the character toward one that is more rural. Places like Jalan Raja Alang is one of the few where you will still be able to see kampung houses, albeit within sight of skyscrapers, including the Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower.

How to reach Chow Kit

Take the KL Monorail to the Chow Kit Monorail Station. In addition, the free GoKL City Bus also makes a stop at Chow Kit.
