Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, Kuala Lumpur (7 July, 2016)


Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim is a major road in Kuala Lumpur. It connects Jalan Segambut, near the junction of Jalan Tuanku Azlan Shah in the north, to Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar in the south. Jalan Sulan Abdul Halim is one of the important major roads on the west side of the city.

Originally, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim was known as Jalan Duta. The name Jalan Duta came about from a planning decision in the mid 1950s, to turn the area between the Lake Gardens and Segambut into a diplomatic enclave.¹ However the project did not really get off the ground, and eventually most of the embassies that were supposed to have occupied the area had acquired alternative sites, with only the Indian High Commission occupying the area. Nevertheless the name Jalan Duta stuck on, even as the enclave was turned into a residential area. Instead of diplomats, notable personalities of the country bought land and built their properties here.

In 2014, Jalan Duta and Persiaran Duta were renamed Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim and Persiaran Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin respectively, in honour of the country's monarchs. Jalan Duta was renamed after Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, the Sultan of Kedah, who was the only sultan so far, to be installed twice, being the 14th and 27th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.
