Makam Moyang Salleh (10 July, 2016)


Makam Moyang Salleh (GPS: 2.9422, 102.08084) is a mausoleum to a Malay chieftain in Kuala Klawang, Negeri Sembilan. The mausoleum is located beside Route 86, about 1.4km to the east of the Kuala Klawang town centre. This is the final resting place of Dato' Moyang Salleh, the first Dato' Penghulu of Luak Jelebu. (Luak Jelebu is the precursor of presently Jelebu District).

Moyang Salleh is the son of Dato' Mentunggang, the chieftain of Luak Jelebu. His ancestor, Moyang Acheh, was the founder of the Undang institution of Luak Jelebu. Luak Jelebu was a vassal to the Sultanate of Johor, but broke away in 1757. Dato' Moyang Salleh was instrumental in freeing Jelebu from Johor rule, and the event was known as "breaking away from Johor" (memutuskan tali ke Johor).

A short distance from Moyang Salleh's grave is a cannon, known as Meriam Dato' Undang Abdullah, or Dato' Undang Abdullah's Cannon. However, it is believed to be originally owned by Dato' Kelana Putera, as his name Kelana Putera is inscribed on it. The cannon was discovered in Titi, Jelebu, during the rule of Dato' Undang Abdullah bin Panglima Muda, the 12th Dato' Undang of Luak Jelebu. He relocated it on a hill.
