Burmese Pool, TaipingBurmese Pool, Taiping (31 August, 2015)

Burmese Pool (GPS: 4.85435, 100.76054) is a forest park in Taiping. Located at the foot of Maxwell Hill, it is also known as Kolam Renang Batu Besar. The area is popular with the locals who come here to bath in the river. Burmese Pool got its name from the natural rock pool fed by a waterfall, which continues from there as Sungai Larut. The name technically refers to that particular pool, but the name has since been expanded to cover the whole forest park.

My wife and I made a visit to Burmese Pool, not so much to bathe or picnic, but simply to sightsee the area, as we have heard so much about it. Parking fee is RM2 single entry.

During the time of our visit, the place was quite crowded with picnickers. On the way in, we saw the toilet, which doubled as a souvenir shop. All picnic gear was available for sale, from mat to rubber tubes. An itinerant ice cream seller was doing brisk business on that hot day.

We had planned to have a picnic lunch at Burmese Pool, but did not follow through with the plans, on account that the place was too crowded, and with so much trash being discarded here and there, we would be molested by flies. So we took our lunch elsewhere, and ended up having a picnic at the Taiping Lake Gardens.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
