OUE Tower & Link

OUE Tower, SingaporeOUE Tower, Singapore (11 September, 2011)

OUE Tower (GPS: 1.28372, 103.85286) is a revolving tower in downtown Singapore. Located at Collyer Quay, it is connected to an overhead bridge that was formerly known as Change Alley Aerial Plaza. Both the tower and bridge were renamed OUE Tower and OUE Link respectively following their renovation in 2011.

Although the area has been called Change Alley since the late 19th century, the shopping arcade bearing that name was only constructed in 1970, after the Urban Redevelopment Authority sold the site for development. The result is one of the most iconic buildings to grace the city waterfront of the 1970's.

Change Alley got its name from the money changers to used to work in the area, in those days when visitors came to shore from ocean liners. It also derived the name from the Exchange Alley of the City of London, where stockbrokers congregate. Originally, the alley in that area was known as Spottiswoode Lane.

The development of OUE Tower created a shopping arcade with small outlets. It was a popular shopping destination in the 1970's, but over the decades have lost its lustre, resulting in low traffic through the area. The revolving restaurant, once towering over the area, is today dwarfed by the soaring skyscrapers of Raffles Place.
