Serangoon Road

Serangoon Road, SingaporeSerangoon Road, Singapore (26 July, 2017)

Serangoon Road is a major road in Singapore. It connects with Selegie Road in the southwest, at the intersection with Bukit Timah Road and Sungei Road, and with Upper Serangoon Road, in the northeast, at the intersection with Jalan Toa Payoh and the Pan Island Expressway.

Serangoon Road is one of the older roads of Singapore. Cutting through Singapore's Little India, it began as a dirt path in the early 19th century. Over time, the road was lengthened, reaching the Serangoon River in 1927.1. It is not clear how Serangoon Road got its name, but theories abound. Even the Serangoon River was renamed from the original Rangoon River.
