Chachoengsao Province จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา

is one of the provinces of Thailand in the Central Region. It covers 5,351 sq km (2,066 sq mi) and has a population of 679,000 people (2012 estimate), ranking it 41st in terms of size and 37th in terms of population.

Chachoengsao Province is bordered by Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri provinces to the north, Sa Kaeo Province to the east, Chanthaburi Province to the southeast, Chonburi Province to the south, Samut Prakan Province to the southwest, Bangkok to the west and Pathum Thani Province to the northwest. The province is subdivided into 11 districts, or amphoe, which is further subdivided into 93 subdistricts (tambon) and 859 villages (muban). The districts of Chachoengsao are Mueang Chachoengsao, Bang Khla, Bang Nam Priao, Bang Pakong, Ban Pho, Phanom Sarakham, Ratchasan, Sanam Chai Khet, Plaeng Yao, Tha Takiap and Khlong Khuean.

Places of Interest in Chachoengsao Province

Chachoengsao City Fortress: Defence walls built during the reign of King Rama V to protect the city and also to suppress the Ang Yi rebels of Chinese opium traders.
Kuan Im Loi Nam: Statue of the Chinese goddess of mercy in the posture of holding a statue to spread humanity among all classes.
Phraya Sisunthonwohan Monument: This is a memorial to an author of many Thai textbooks. A native of Paet Rio, he is remembered for his contribution to the advancement of the Thai language.
Suan Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park: Park commemorating the mother of the King of Thailand, located near the centre of town. It has a lake with a walking path around it.
Wat Pitulathirat Rangsarit: Temple in Chachoengsao which in 1908 was renamed Wat Mueang by King Rama V on the occasion of his royal visit to the town.
Wat Sothon Wararam Woraviharn: Also known as Wat Hong, this is the oldest temple in Chachoengsao, built during the Ayutthaya period. It houses a famous Buddha image, the Luang Por Sothorn.
Wat Uphai Phatikaram: Buddhist temple also known as Wat Sam Po Kong (Temple of the Lord of the Three Jewels) with a Chinese-style pavilion in its compound. It houses an image of Chaopho Sam Po Kong, the Lord of the Three Jewels, which the Chinese venerate as the deified form of Chinese admiral Zheng He.
