Lopburi Province จังหวัดลพบุรี

Lopburi Province จังหวัดลพบุรี is a province in the Central Region of Thailand. Also written Lop Buri, it covers 6,200 sq km (2,394 sq mi) and has a population of 756,000 people (2012 estimate), ranking it 37th in size and 30th in population among the 76 provinces of Thailand.

Lopburi Province is located on the eastern side of the valley of the Chao Phraya River, between the Lopburi River and Pasak River. It bordered by Phetchabun Province to the north, Chaiyaphum Province to the northeast, Nakhon Ratchasima Province to the east, Saraburi Province to the south, Ayutthaya and Ang Thong province to the southwest, Singburi Province to the west and Nakhon Sawan Province to the northwest. The provincial capital is Lopburi Town.

Lopburi Province is divided into 11 districts or amphoe. They comprises Muang Lop Buri (Lopburi Town), Phatthana Nikhom, Khok Samrong, Chai Badan, Tha Wung, Ban Mi, Tha Luang, Sa Bot, Khok Charoen, Lam Sonthi and Nong Muang.

Lopburi Province has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and was known for much of history as Lavo. During the Angkorian period, the ancient Khmer ruled over the area, building impressive temples that stand as ruins today. After the power of the Khmers waned, Lopburi came under the rule of the Kingdom of Sukhothai, and later the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. Lopburi remained largely insignificant until 1938, when it was chosen to be the site of the largest military base in Thailand.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
