Mae Hong Son Province จังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน

Mae Hong Son Province จังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน is an isolated province on the extreme western part of Thailand. A province of the Northern Region, it covers 12,681 sq km (4,896 sq mi), it only has a population of 244,000 people (2012 estimate), making it the most sparsely populated province in the kingdom.

Mae Hong Son Province is bordered by Myanmar to the north, west and southwest. It also shares a border with Chiang Mai Province to the east and Tak Province to the south. The provincial capital is Mae Hong Son Town.

Mae Hong Son Province is one of the most rural parts of Thailand. It is mountainous and shrouded in mist for most days of the year. The province is a training ground for elephants. It is also developing itself as a destination for intrepid travelers looking for natural surroundings. The presence of various hill tribes added color and culture to the province's tourism portfolio. Among the activities here include trekking, mountain biking, rafting, visits to hill tribe villages and spa.

Mae Hong Son Province is divided into 7 districts or amphoe, namely Mae Hong Son Town, Khun Yuam, Pai, Mae Sariang, Mae La Noi, Sop Moei and Pangmapha. These are subdivided into 25 subdistricts or tambon. There are a total of 402 villages or muban in the province.
