Nakhon Ratchasima Province จังหวัดนครราชสีมา

Nakhon Ratchasima Province จังหวัดนครราชสีมา is a province in the Northeastern Region of Thailand. It is often known as Khorat. The province covers 20,494 sq km (7,913 sq mi), making it the biggest province in Thailand. Its population is 2.58 million, putting it in second position after Bangkok. In terms of population density however, Khorat ranks 34th.

Nakhon Ratchasima shares a border with Chaiyaphum Province to the north, Khon Kaen Province to the northeast, Buriram Province to the east, Sa Kaeo and Prachin Buri provinces to the south, Nakhon Nayok Province to the southwest, Saraburi Province to the west and Lopburi Province to the northwest.

Nakhon Ratchasima Province sits on the western edge of the Khorat Plateau. Separating it from the Chao Phraya River valley are the Phetchabun and Dong Phaya Yen mountain ranges. The area was part of the vast Khmer Empire in the 11th century, and even today, there are many Khmer ruins that have been preserved in Khorat. The present town of Nakhon Ratchasima dates to the 17th century, built on the orders of King Narai.

Due its vast size, Nakhon Ratchasima Province is divided into 32 districts or amphoe. They are Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima, the provincial capital, along with Khon Buri, Soeng Sang, Khong, Ban Lueam, Chakkarat, Chok Chai, Dan Khun Thot, Non Thai, Non Sung, Kham Sakaesaeng, Bua Yai, Prathai, Pak Thong Chai, Phimai, Huai Thalaeng, Chum Phuang, Sung Noen, Kham Tale So, Sikhio, Pak Chong, Nong Bun Mak, Kaeng Sanam Nang, Non Daeng, Wang Nam Khiao, Thepharak, Mueang Yang, Phra Thong Kham, Lam Thamenchai, Bua Lai, Sida and Chaloem Phra Kiat. These are subdivided into 263 subdistricts (tambon) and 3,743 villages (muban).
