Nong Khai Province จังหวัดหนองคาย

Nong Khai Province จังหวัดหนองคาย is a province of Thailand in the Northeastern Region. It occupies a strip of land on the southern bank of the Mekong River, which forms the border with Laos to the north. Nong Khai Province is also bordered by Bueng Kan Province to the east, Sakon Nakhon Province to the southeast, Udon Thani Province to the south and Loei Province to the west.

Nong Khai Province is the closest part of Thailand to the capital of Laos, Vientiane, which is just 25 km away afross the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. The area was traditionally ruled by either the Kingdom of Ayutthaya or the Laotian Kingdom of Lan Xang, with power swinging between the two, until eventually it was taken over by Siam following the Haw Wars against Chinese quasi-military forces that invaded between 1865 and 1890.

Nong Khai Province comprises 9 districts including Mueang Nong Khai (Nong Khai Town, the provincial capital) along with Tha Bo, Phon Phisai, Si Chiang Mai, Sangkhom, Sakhrai, Fao Rai, Rattanawapi and Pho Tak.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
