Al Ain (Arabic: العين) is the second largest city in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the fourth largest in the United Arab Emirates. It has a population of around 375,000 people (2012 estimate).

Al Ain is located 160 km to the east of the capital, Abu Dhabi, near the border with Oman. It was the birthplace of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1918-2004), the ruler of Abu Dhabi who served as the first president of the United Arab Emirates.

The name Al Ain means "water spring". This is due to the many underground springs in the area that enables the falaj system of irrigation. The system distributes underground water through a network of tunnels.

As with all the cities in the United Arab Emirates, Al Ain is developing tourist products to become a tourist destination. It attracts mostly domestic tourists.

You can fly to Al Ain from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Alternatively, there are also buses from these two cities.
