Daphni, Hosios Loukas and Nea Moni are monasteries in Greece that are inscribed as World Heritage Sites.

The Daphni Monastery was founded at the turn of the 6th century, Christianizing the former site of the Sanctuary of Apollo Daphnaios. It reuses the Ionic columns of the ancient temple of Apollo in its portico.

The Monastery of Hosios Loukas is a walled monastery near the town of Distomo in Boeotia, Greece. It was founded in the early 10th century and was established by the hermit, the Venerable Luke of Steiris. The monastery is one of the most important monuments of Middle Byzantine architecture and art.

The Monastery of Nea Moni is an 11th century monastery located on the island of Chios, which is the fifth largest Greek island. It is seven kilometers off the coast of Asia Minor. The monastery was built in the mid-11th century by Byzantine emperor Constantine IX Monomachos and his wife Empress Zoe.

Monasteries of Daphni, Hosios Loukas and Nea Moni of Chios was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 14th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Banff, Canada, 7 - 12 December, 1990.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
