Lauterbrunnen is a small village in the Interlaken-Oberhasli district, in Bern canton, Switzerland. It covers 164.4 sq km (63.5 sq mi) and has a population of 2,500 people (2011 estimate).

Lauterbrunnen is situated 795 m (2,608 ft) above sea level within the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the world's deepest U-shaped valley. As such, it is a village surrounded by breathtaking beauty. The village dates back to its first mention in 1240.

Running through Lauterbrunnen is a glacier river, Weisse Lütschine, which gets its water from the melting snow. Once a year it would overflow due to the rapid melting of snow. The village also has a couple of mighty waterfalls which you can visit when you explore the surrounding areas.

Visiting Lauterbrunnen

Visitors to Lauterbrunnen take the train from Interlaken. There is a narrow-gauge train from the Interlaken-Ost railway station. You need to hold a Swiss Pass to take the train for free; Eurail and Inter-Rail passes are not valid.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
