Maienfeld is a lovely Alpine village in Graubünden canton, Switzerland. It is best known as the setting for the story of Heidi. The village is 635 m (2,083 ft) above sea level. It covers 32.34 sq km (12.49 sq mi) and has a population of 2,500 people (2011 estimate).

Maienfeld is located in the hills above Bad Ragaz. It has been inhabited since at least the Roman times, with remains of a pre-Roman cellar having been discovered in the area. The village was first mentioned in AD 831, originally known as Lupinis. It became known as Maienvelt in 1295, and that evolves into Maienfeld.

German (92.1%) is the predominant language spoken in Maienfeld. About 11% of the village population comprises foreigners. Over half the people of Maienfeld belong to the Swiss Reformed Church (58.4%) while 29.1% are Roman Catholics.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
