Pontresina is a municipality in the canton of Graubünden, in Switzerland. Located 1,805 m (5,922 ft) above sea level, it covers 118.19 sq km (45.63 sq mi) and has a population of 2,000 people (2012 estimate).

Pontresina dates back to the 12th century. Its earliest mention was in a medieval Latin text, where it appeared as pontem sarasinam. Over the centuries its name has evolved. Historians believe that the name, which means "bridge of the Saracens" refer to an Arab invasion of the land before it became Switzerland.

Today much of the land in Pontresina is covered by rivers, glaciers and mountains, and is therefore non productive. Of the remainer, about 16.7% is used for farming. Most of thye people here are Roman Catholics (48.2%) while a smaller percentage belong to the Swiss Reformed Church (32.5%). German is the predominant language in this village, spoken by some 57% of its people.

Today the Church of Santa Maria, the Grand Hotel Kronenhof and the Spaniola Tower are heritage sites of national significance.

The main town from Pontresina is St Moritz. From there, take Route 27 heading each till you reach Route 29. Then continue in a southeast direction on Route 29 to reach Pontresina.
