Darwin is the capital and biggest city in the Northern Territory, Australia. It is a city of 124,800 people located on the Timor Sea. Darwin covers an area of 112 sq km (43.2 sq mi). It is the smallest and northernmost state capital in Australia.

Although the Dutch has skirted the northern coastline of Australia by the 17th century, the city itself was named by Lieutenant John Lort Stokes in 1939 after the British naturalist Charles Darwin, who had sailed with him on an earlier expedition.

Darwin experiences a tropical savannah climate. Its calendar is split between a dry season and a wet season. The dry season runs from April/May to October while the wet season from October to April. During the wet season, there may be occasional tropical cyclones. Darwin is also prone to lightning strikes. The temperature in Darwin is fairly constant, ranging from an average low of 23.2°C (73.8°F) to an average high of 32°C (89.6°F). January is the wettest month in Darwin.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
