Queensland is a state of Australia on the northeastern portion of the Australian continent. It covers an area of 1,852,642 sq km (715,309 sq mi), and is the second largest state in Australia. 6.58% of Queensland is composed of water.

Queensland is bordered by the Northern Territory to the west, South Australia to the southwest and New South Wales to the south. The coast of Queensland faces the Coral Sea and the Pacific Ocean to the northeast and east. Its highest point is 1,622-meter (5,321-foot) Mount Bartle Frere.

Queensland has a population of 4.4 million people. Its largest city and capital is Brisbane. Queensland observes the Australian Eastern Standard Time, which is +10 GMT, and does not observe Daylight Saving Time. Its postal abbreviation is QLD.

The main international airports for Queensland are in Brisbane, Cairns and the Gold Coast. In addition, there are domestic airports at Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, the Fraser Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

By Road
It takes 9 hours to drive from Sydney, 21 hours from Melbourne, 25 hours from Adelaide, and between 24 to 48 hours from Darwin.

By Train
You can take the Countrylink/XPT train from Sydney to Brisbane. The journey takes 14 hours.
