Victoria is the smallest state on mainland Australia. It covers an area of 237,629 sq km (91,749 sq mi), including 4.3% of water. The state shares a border with New South Wales to the north and South Australia to the west. The highest point in the state is Mount Bogong, at 1,986 m (6,516 ft).

Victoria has a population of 5.5 million people. It is the second most populous state in Australia after New South Wales. Its biggest city and capital is Melbourne. Victoria observes the Australian Eastern Standard Time, which is +10 GMT. It also observes Daylight Saving Time, from the first Sunday of October to the first Sunday of April, when clocks are turned to +11 GMT. The postal abbreviation of Victoria is VIC.

A car would be indispensible if you are planning to explore Victoria thoroughly. Apart from driving, you can also take the train. Victoria has the most comprehensive rail network of any state in Australia. Rail services is provided by V/Line.
