Suva is the capital and largest city in Fiji. Located on the southeastern coast of the main island of Viti Levu, Suva has a population of 90,000 people (2012 estimate), within an urban area of 180,000 people. It is part of Rewa Province, in the Central Division.

Suva is the largest city in the South Pacific outside of New Zealand. It began when the site was cleared for cotton plantation in 1868. Following Fiji's annexation by the United Kingdom in 1974, the capital was moved from Levuka to Fiji in 1877. The city was granted municipal status in 1910 and granted city status in 1952. It was the first city in Fiji. Today the growth of Suva has spilled outside its city limits, initially set at just 13 sq km.

There are a number of landmarks within Suva, among them the Suva City Library, Government House, Parliament House of Fiji and Fiji Museum.

Visiting Suva

The main international airport is Nadi International Airport, although Suva also has an airport that receives some international flights. Upon arrival, it is best to rent a car in order to properly explore Suva and the surroundings.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
