The museum provides a glimpse into the history of the island, its people and culture. The museum displays artifacts from age past, from seemingly insignificant oil lamps, mortar and pestiles, to old, age-worn photographs of Long Island, showing its plantations, cottages, villages and churches. Local handiwork and baskets are also on display. The building also serves as the island library housing newspapers, magazine and books.

You can actually cover the Long Island Museum in 20 minutes or less, but it's worth a visit anyway, if you want to view the island's keepsakes in one place. However, there is an admission fee of $3.00 for non residents, $1.00 for residents and $0.50 for children, so you might want to consider whether it is worth entering.
