Road Town is the capital of British Virgin Islands. It is located in a gulf on the south coast of Tortola, the biggest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands. Road Town itself has a population of 9,400 people (2012 estimate)

The name Road Town comes from the nautical term, "The Roads", meaning a location where ships can easily reach, but less sheltered than a harbor. Its history goes back to the Emancipation Proclamation of 1 August, 1834, which gave slaves their freedom. The town was nearly wiped out by a major fire in 1853. Today it has been completely rebuilt. Modern Road Town serves as a tourist destination and a major center for self-hire yacht chartering.

Visitors use Road Town as their base for visiting the many sights in the British Virgin Island as there are ferry services from here to other parts of the territory. Sights within Road Town itself is limited.
