New Brunswick (NB) is a province of Canada on the eastern part of the country. It is one of the three Maritime Provinces, which also includes Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. New Brunswick covers 72,908 sq km (28,150 sq mi) and has a population of 752,000 people (2012 estimate).

New Brunswick is bordered by Quebec to the north, the US state of Maine to the west and Nova Scotia to the southeast. It faces the Gulf of St Lawrence to the east and the Bay of Fundy to the south.

New Brunswick is one of the original four provinces that established the Confederation of Canada on 1 July, 1867, along with Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. It is the only province that is constitutionally bilingual, though today English is the main spoken language of 64.83% of New Brunswickers compared to 32.61% for French. The province has ten seats in the 308-seat Canadian House of Commons and 10 seats in the Senate of Canada.

The largest city in New Brunswick is Saint John while the capital is Fredericton. New Brunswick was named after the ancestral home of the 18th century British monarch, King George III, which is the city of Braunschweig in Lower Saxony, Germany.

Until the arrival of Europeans, the indigenous inhabitants of New Brunswick comprise three tribes of the First Nations people, namely the Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqiyik andthe Passamaquoddy. According to archaeological remains, Vikings may have been the first Europeans to explore the coast of New Brunswick. However French explorer Jacques Cartier is documented as the first European to arrive in the area in 1534.

The economy of New Brunswick is today supported largely by service-based industries such as health care, educational, retail, finance and insurance. In the rural parts of the province, the economy is still based on forestry, mining, mixed farming and fishing.
