Arizona is a state in southwestern United States. It is the 48th state in the Union, being the last contiguous state that joined the United States of America, which it did, on 14 February, 1912, fifty years after it became a territory of the United States.

Arizona covers an area of 113,998 sq mi (295,254 sq km). Its biggest city as well as state capital is Phoenix. The Phoenix Metropolitan Area includes some of the biggest cities in the state if counted separately.

Arizona shares a border with New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and California, and just touches the border with Colorado. It also has a 389-mile (626-km) international boundary with Baja California in Mexico.

Arizona is a state where you can find part the Grand Canyon as well as many natural parks, forest preserves, national monuments and Native American reservations.

Travel to Arizona

Most people either fly to Arizona or go there by road. The main airports for the state are the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and the Tucson International Airport (TUS). Smaller airports include the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG), Laughlin/Bullhead International Airport (IFP) and Yuma International Airport (YUM).

Travel within Arizona

You do need a car to properly explore Arizona. You can find a car-rental company at all the airports in the state. Your other option is to take the bus. Greyhound has services to most of the cities in the state.
