Derry, New Hampshire

Derry is a town in Rockingham County, on the southeastern part of New Hampshire. The town covers 36.5 sq mi (94.5 sq km) and has a population of 33,000 people (2011 estimate). It is the fourth most populous town in New Hampshire.

The town of Derry was incorporated in 1827, although settlement has been established as early as 1719. Many of the early settlers were of Scottish and Irish ancestry. The town was named after Derry in Northern Ireland. In 1719 it became the first place to plant potatoes in the United States.

Imminent poet Robert Frost lived in Derry on a farm bought for him by his grandfather. The Robert Frost Farm is today a National Historic Landmark.

Warmest month in Derry is July, with average high temperature reaching 82°F (28°C). Coldest month is January, when the average low temperature drops to 5°F (-15°C). August receives the most rain, at 3.59 in (91.2 mm).
