Fredericksburg experiences a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. July is the hottest month with average high temperature of 89.6°F (32°C) while January is the coldest, when the average low temperature drops to 22.9°F (-5.1°C). July is also the wettest month, receiving 4.18 in (106.2 mm) of rain.

The history of settlement in the Fredericksburg area goes back to 1671, when the land was patented. A fort was then built on the Rappahannock River in 1676. A settlement of German immigrants was established on the Rapidan River, a tributary of the Rappahannock.

Fredericksburg was founded in 1728. It was named after the then Prince of Wales, the son of King George II, and the streets were named after members of the royal family. The county of Spotsylvania had been formed earlier, in 1720. In 1732 the county court was relocated to Fredericksburg, so it served as county seat of Spotsylvania until 1780, when the courthouse was relocated once more, to be closer to the county center. Fredericksburg was incorporated as a town in 1781. It was made an independent city (that is to say, not a town within Spotsylvania County) in 1879.

Fredericksburg's claim to fame is that the power chord of the modern guitar was developed there in 1958.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
