Ketchikan is a small, scenic town on Revillagigedo Island in southern Alaska. With a population of just under 7,500, it is already the fifth largest town in the state. Ketchikan is often called the "Salmon Capital of the World", due to fishing being one of the mainstays of its economy. The city is also cashing in on tourism.

The town of Ketchikan got its name from Ketchikan Creek which flows through the town. There is however no clear explanation how the name Ketchikan come about. The town is one of the rainiest in North America, receiving over 160 inches of precipitation annually.

Ketchikan has more totem poles than any other town in the world, so that is one of the sights you should see when you are there. You can find them at City of Saxman, Totem Bight and the Totem Heritage Center.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
