Missoula was founded in 1860 and was originally a trading post called Hell Gate Village by Christopher P. Higgins. In 1866 it was renamed Missoula, a Salish Native American name for the Clark Fork River. The Northern Pacific Railway reached Missoula in 1883, helping to fuel its development.

The economy of Missoula was supported by the lumber industry until the 1990s, when the decline in the industry was accompanied by a rise in the tourism industry. The city experiences a semi-arid climate. Total precipitation for the year amounts to just 13.82 in (351 mm). Wettest month is May, with 1.95 in (27.7 mm) of rain. July is the hottest month with average high temperature of 83.6°F (28.7°C) while January is the coldest, with average low temperature of 16.2°F (-8.8°C).

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
