Springfield is the third largest city in Missouri. Located on the southwestern part of the state, it is the county seat of Greene County. Springfield covers 73.8 sq mi (191.1 sq km) and has a population of 160,000 (2011 estimate). The metropolitan area of Springfield spreads into Christian County, Dallas County, Polk County and Webster County, and has a total population approaching half a million people.

The city of Springfield was incorporated in 1838. It is located on the Springfield Plateau of the Ozarks, a mountain area in central United States. For that reason, the city is often called the Queen of the Ozarks.

Springfield covers 73.8 sq mi (191 sq km). The city experiences a humid continental climate. The hottest month is July, when temperature occasionally breaches 89.9°F (32.17°C). The coldest month is January6, with temperatures going down to 21.8°F (-5.7°C). July is also the wettest month while January the driest.

The economy of Springfield is built on health care, manufacturing, retail and education. Among the major employers in Springfield include St John's Health System, CoxHealth and Wal-Mart Stores.

Visiting Springfield, Missouri

Interstate 44 is the only interstate highway passing through Springfield, connecting it with St Louis in the northeast and Tulsa in the southwest. You can also fly to Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF), located on the northwest part of the city.
