My Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur experience

My wife and I had the pleasure of experiencing the hospitality of The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur on 1-3 August, 2019. In anticipation of our stay, the hotel's Communications Department put together an itinerary that allows us to experience the hotel to the fullest. We were provided the spacious one-bedroom suite, which is located at the far end of the corridor, on the 14th floor of the hotel. Its number is 1400.

The one-bedroom suite is 722 sq ft (67 sq m) in size. It has a separate bedroom, a sitting area and dining area, a main bathroom, and a secondary washroom. There is also a 24-hour butler service and exclusive access to the club lounge. Let me show you around.

After we are done checking out our room, it's time to check out the rest of the hotel. One of the curiosities about this hotel is that, upon checking in, guests go up an escalator, which takes them to a concourse, which leads to a lobby lounge, with the lift lobby to the side. So the lift lobby is actually quite a distance from the front desk itself.

If you arrive by car, as we did, you park in the basement, and take the lift up to a separate lift lobby, which connects to the front desk lobby. Needless to say, it is a huge hotel.

On our first evening at The Ritz-Carlton, we went for menu dégustation at their fine-dining outlet, The Library. We would partake the exclusive Two Friends - One Cuisine menu crafted by Chef Wai.

The Starter was bread served with truffle butter. For the appetizer, I had the Gallagher Oysters served with Sea Urchin, Onigiri and fragrant Sushi Rice. My wife had Somen noodles topped with Sea Urchin and Herring Caviar, with a side of Chilled Cauliflower Cream. This was followed by Hokkaido Scallops presented with Mascarpone-Caviar Crème on a bed of Parmigiano-Reggiano Rissotto.

This was followed by Tangerine Sherbet. For the main course, I had the Wagyu Medallion, which is pan-roasted grain-fed Wagyu beef with Cafè de Paris butter and Truffle Sauce. My wife had Corn-Fed Chicken Breast, which is pan-seared sous vide chicken breast with a slice of foie gras on a sweet ragout of summer onions topped with truffle purée and shaved foie gras.

To complete the meal, for the dessert, I had the Chilled Jivara Pudding served with fresh seasonal berries and almond-raspberry lavoche, while my wife had the Choux au Craqueli served with passion fruit mousseline and sorbet. It was truly a memorable evening.

Upon returning to our suite, we were surprised to find what was installed for us. Our butler had placed some macarons, with the Ritz-Carlton crest, on our dining table. And by our bedside, there were brownies with a lovely card attached.

The next morning, we had our breakfast at The Cobalt Room. The place was already quite busy when we arrived, and we were ushered to a table next to the window. The restaurant has breakfast items representing various cultures, and we found Indian cuisine, French, and Arabic, among others, not to mention local items.

After breakfast, we had some "me time" to relax in our plush suite. Then we headed down to the swimming pool. The Ritz-Carlton has two swimming pools, one in the main wing and another in the Ritz-Carlton Residences wing. Guests may use both pools, but children are limited to the pool in the main wing. I prefer the pool at the residences wing, as the water is slightly warmer (I cannot stand cold water), and also because it has various water features and cascades over there.

Lunch was at the Patisserie, which is located right outside The Cobalt Room. It was à la carte. We started our meal with Lobster Bisque. For the main course, I had the Ritz-Carlton Sandwich, which is stuffed with lobster, grilled beef bacon, fried free-range egg and momotaro tomato. My wife had the Angus Beef Burger, which is chargrilled Angus beef patty, gherkins and crispy onions sandwiched between the sesame bun. For beverage, I had a Latte while my wife had a smoothie of beetroot, granola crumbs, mixed berries, soya milk and yoghurt. It was a heavy, but incredibly satisfying meal.

We only had a moment after lunch to rest our stomach, before it was soon tea time, and yet another occasion to indulge in another round of Ritz-Carlton feasting. Tea is served at the Lobby Lounge (which in fact is a distance from the Front Desk). We got to know Sally the restaurant manager, who happened to also hail from Penang. So it was homey to be able to talk to someone in Penang Hokkien.

Both my wife and I opted for Peppermint Tea, our mutual favourite. Each of us got our own teapot, with a burner under it to keep the tea warm. We were served on fine-bone china tableware. The accompaniments were brought to us in a multi-tier stand. On the top tier were cakes including carrot cake, tiramisu, red velvet and a madeleine,

On the middle tier are sandwiches while on the bottom tier are two scones (a regular scone and a raisin scone) with strawberry jam and cream.

No sooner had we finished tea, it was almost time for dinner. So we dressed up again, and headed down to The Library. As we had done menu degustation the day before, this evening we opted for à la carte. For the Appetizer, I had the Sawara Mackerel, while my wife had the Japanese Squid Ink Pasta. For the main course, I had Yellowtail Amberjack served with housemade court bouillon, Yuzu beurre blanc and Sevruga caviar pearls, while my wife had the Brittany Turbot - poached loin of Fresh wild turbot served with crustacean velouté and crème fraïche. For dessert, I had the Guanaja Chocolate Tart, a tart of Opalys white chocolate, passion fruit and pistachio cruch topped with a cocoa sorbet, while my wife had the Mille-Feuille de Patates Douces, topped with Madagascan Vanilla Chantilly cream and a side of ice cream.

It was indeed an incredibly satisfying meal, and at the end of it, I thanked the entire restaurant team, and had a group shot with them. To my surprise, they offered me a parting gift, which is a box of dessert. We are done eating the dessert, but I am keeping the box as a souvenir of my stay at The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
