Petagas War Memorial (GPS: 5.92111, 116.05439), or Tugu Peringatan Petagas, is a monument erected to commemorate those to gave their lives defending Sabah during the Japanese Occupation. It was erected on the spot where the Japanese massacred 176 freedom fighters on 21 January 1944. The names of all those who died were inscribed on the plaques. Every year a memorial service is head at there on 21 January, the anniversary of the massacre. The area surrounding the memorial is now called the Petagas Memorial Garden.
