Kelana Jaya, Selangor

Kelana Jaya (GPS: 3.11244, 101.60453) is a residential township as well as suburb of Petaling Jaya. It is located within the Petaling District of Selangor, to the west of Kuala Lumpur. The neighbourhoods in Kelana Jaya are SS3, SS4, SS5, SS6 and SS7.

History of Kelana Jaya

Kelana Jaya was originally called Sea Port. It was renamed to Kelana Jaya in 1983, with the proclamation made by then Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sallahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, who renamed the area after his uncle Tengku Kelana Jaya Putra. The proclamation was made when His Royal Highness was officiating the Pilgrimage Complex (Kompleks Jemaah Haji) at Seri Setia.

Kelana Jaya is believed to have been named after Tengku Musa Eddin (1893-1955)¹, the eldest son of Sultan Alaeddin. Born in Jugra in 1893, he was made Crown Prince or Tengku Mahkota. However the throne eluded him, and went instead to Tengku Alam Shah, because the British Resident Theodore Samuel Adams blocked his ascend, alleging misbehaviour on the part of Tengku Musa Eddin, whom he accused of being extravagant. Tengku Musa Eddin was given the title of Tengku Kelana Jaya Putera. In addition to the Petaling Jaya neighbourhood of Kelana Jaya, Jalan Tengku Kelana in Klang was also named after him.

Take the RapidKL Kelana Jaya Line to either the Kelana Jaya LRT Station or Taman Bahagia LRT Station.

If coming by car, exit the New Klang Valley Expressway (E1) at Exit 104. Alternatively, the Damansara-Puchong Expressway cuts right through Kelana Jaya without any access control, so you can turn in to Kelana Jaya directly from the expressway at various points.
